Performance meets purpose
At the heart of Polyocean lies a simple idea: waste can become a resource, an embroidery thread can give ocean-collected plastic a new purpose.
Our mission is to save marine wildlife by cleaning up shorelines and oceans in high risk-regions, recycling only post-consumer plastic and transforming it into an embroidery thread. The waste is collected in areas defined by a country scoring system where plastic is most likely to leak into the ocean.
Regularly verified the scoring system makes sure, that the collected plastic is sourced close to coasts or in high-risk regions.
Rescued from the sea - stitched with purpose
At the heart of Polyocean lies a simple idea: waste can become a resource, an embroidery thread can give ocean-collected plastic a new purpose. Because at Madeira, we believe that meaningful change begins in the details.
The recycling process begins with recovering discarded plastic along coastlines, beaches, rivers, remote islands, mangroves and wetlands, supported by community programmes and local partnerships. In addition, old fishing nets (so called ghost nets) are retrieved from the sea to prevent further harm to marine wildlife.
Once collected, the materials get sorted, cleaned, flaked and pelletize. These pellets are extruded and spun into endless filament yarns by certified partners, suitable for high-quality applications such as embroidery threads.
Dyed and refined at Madeira in Germany through a clean and energy-saving process, the result is a premium, semi-gloss embroidery thread that performs perfectly.
